SendAFrame Help & FAQs

Silver & metallic hand engraving

SendAFrame offers hand-engraving services on select fine silver, silver plate and metallic pieces. All pieces marked with PERSONALIZE THIS ITEM can be worked on. Simple lettering is done machine-assisted while longer text and logo work is created by hand. All engraving is done by artisans with a great deal of experience in producing beautiful work. Please permit them to choose size and position of your engraving if they strongly feel it will be aesthetically better. We may attempt to contact you if we can not accommodate your requests. However, in all instances, our art department will have the final determination of font size, position and type of engraving at their discretion.

Our website will calculate the cost of your engraved text. Place your selected piece(s) into an online shopping cart and click "Personalize this item" under the item description.

Our average expected engraving time is business days to ship up to 12 pieces. We often do better, but please check the actual PERSONALIZING WORKSHEET and your cart for exact times during holiday periods.

Engraving is available at a nominal charge, shown in your CART.

Multiples of the same item: Each additional item of the same style and same lettering will receive a 20%-40% savings. For multiples of the same piece, please allow an additional business day of order preparation for each 12 pieces ordered.
 

We will engrave in your choice of text fonts. Only those that are in the drop-down selection list are available for your piece. Others that are shown in online images are for other materials.

Please note that the depth of engraving (and its appearance) may vary from piece to piece as silver items maybe varying levels of softness and color. Our engravers are always very experience with the pieces and will be making a decision based upon their team's experience with the piece.

Engraving work will be done in the available space of the piece, between 55%-80% of that area. We will always maintain a border at top/bottom of the engraving work, though in some cases this will be small if the piece itself is small. If you have specific needs for smaller or larger work, please include this request in the SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS space provided. This will be a request only - all orders are fulfilled at the final discretion of our engraving and art departments.

Due to the nature of personalized items, engraved pieces are not returnable for refund under any circumstances. You will agree to this upon submitting an order so we sincerely request that you check the order carefully. Errors in spelling or placement we have made will cheerfully be replaced upon submission of evidence as quickly as possible, using the same shipping method (or faster) as the original order. Inspect your engraved order upon receipt and contact our Customer Service department immediately.  It is best to use the LIVE HELP area on any page of our webstore for further instructions.

Please note: our work really is hand engraving. Differences in engraved letter appearance and height/size may be apparent to the eye from piece to piece. This includes, but not limited to:

  • fonts that have different appearance from your monitor's view;
  • fancy monograms done at differently sized to normal text;
  • graphics/logos at different sizes to text

It has been our policy for over 42 years to make our absolute best effort to have all pieces uniform and in proportion to the piece. However, we are careful to remind you that personalized items are absolutely not returnable for credit or exchange of any kind. Submission of your order with credit card data, in our secure cart, is your agreement of understanding of this firm policy.  Although this means a bit less "first time customer" sales for us, we urge you: Do Not checkout a cart unless you are comfortable with the requirements and restrictions (above) for your engraving order. Laser Engraving for woods, acrylics and paper mats

For many of our acrylic, paper and wood items, SendAFrame offers a state-of-the-art photo etching and laser engraving facility. Here produce your text in a multitude of fonts and incorporate your artwork and logos onto pieces that make outstanding personal gifts, premium incentives and attractive awards.

Once an item is placed in a shopping cart, an orange button to PERSONALIZE will be shown. Click this PERSONALIZE button to enter the order form where options for personalizing will be shown in detail.

Your shopping cart will indicate the actual ship time. However, depending upon how early in the day we receive the order and the time of year work load in our centers, many orders are personalized and shipped same day.

Please indicate your preference for font style and locations and we will try to accommodate your request. We do not provide proofs of the work prior to production. In all cases, our art department maintains final say on all laser engraving work performed and delivered as they know the textures of the materials and suitable arrangements for the piece appearance.

The cost for laser engraving is $12.00 for the first "zone" area; $5.00 for each additional zone; $6.00 for added graphics or logos. We offer a 30%-50% discount after the first piece for multiple pieces of the same item/same orientation being done with the same engraving (check personalizing worksheet).

The process of laser and photo engraving is a permanent personalizing process. The piece will show the underlying color of the material, often not the same as the surface stain or treatment. The color appearance may differ from piece to piece, occasionally the same as the surface color depending upon the depth of engraving. All will be exactly the same font, size, and personalized message. All items offered for laser etching have been tested and we believe offer an outstanding look and personalized quality.

Due to the nature of personalized items, laser engraved pieces are not returnable for refund, credit or exchange. Please check your order request carefully and describe any special instructions in detail. We will make every effort to accommodate you, but in no instance are we responsible for addressing the notes you provide exactly. Damaged, defective or spelling errors on items that are our mistake will cheerfully and immediately replaced upon submission of a claim.  Please contact us upon inspection of your receipt via our LIVE HELP (on every page of our webstore) or via email.

Hot Foil Stamping (leathers & cardstock)

What is foil imprinting?

Foil imprinting, also called hot stamping, is a combination of heat & pressure along with an etched magnesium plate & foil film, which seals in a great looking imprint into porous materials like cardstock paper and leathers.

ARTWORK

A great looking foil imprint starts with a crisp clean black and white image.Artwork needs to be Black & White ONLY - Correct / Incorrect artwork Your artwork can be a graphic, a logo, typographic lettering, just text or a combination of these elements. Artwork should not contain fine lines, gradients, drop shadows or textures as these will not produce a desirable result.We can accept .psd, .jpg, .jpeg, .tif, .tiff, and .eps format files.

As a general rule we require a minimum of 300 dpi for foil stamping.

If you cannot supply us with satisfactory art, our graphics department is staffed with professional graphic designers & typesetters who may be able to assist you. Art that requires extensive cleanup may require an additional art prep charge.

Foil Stamping Plate
Once your art and layout have been approved, the image is etched onto a magnesium foil stamping plate which is also known as a metal die. New imprinting orders are charged a new plate and machine set-up fee. Foil stamping plates are ke
pt on file for one calendar year. If your order is repeated within a one year time frame, the order will only be charged the machine set-up fee.

Foil Films
The foil coloring that is transferred to your frame or folder comes in large rolls. Foil film comes in a variety of color options. Our 11 most popular include: silver, gold, blue, red, green, copper, purple & teal metallic (mirror finish) foils or black, orange & reflex blue non-metallic foils. Please call for availability if you require a color not listed.

The foil film is unrolled and sandwiched between the magnesium plate, which has been heated up to an appropriate temperature and the product to be imprinted. The plate and product are pressed together and through heat and pressure (hence the term "Hot Stamping") the thin layer of foil is transferred off the roll and onto the product.

Custom Art and Logo Work for leathers, cloth & paper

We can do beautiful custom embossed work on our leather, cloth and paper frames and albums. There is a one-time charge to make the die from your art.

The size limit to die size is approximately 3" in one direction and 1¼" in the other. So, for example, if you have a square logo to be produced, the largest size can be 1¼" x 1¼".

To have us emboss your order with a custom art or logo:

  • Select the item(s) that you want to have personalized and place into an online shopping cart
  • Click the orange "Personalize this item" link on the item listing in the cart
  • Complete the Personalizing Worksheet form as requested
  • Be sure to select the option for "Custom Graphic" and upload your artwork image
  • Due to the nature of personalizing, any orders placed and subsequently cancelled after 24 hours will be subject to a minimum 25% "kill" fee plus any costs of proofs.  Orders beyond 24 hours of proof approval are subject to a minimum 75% "kill" fee.  Orders that have been assigned tracking #'s - or are assigned tracking #'s within 24 "business hours" (M-F) are not eligible for return nor refund. This can happen because there is a dry-time or cure-time to many personalizing operations and finished items may not be able to be packed immediately after they are complete.  Thank you for your understanding

Glass & cut-crystal etching

SendAFrame can etch on most of our crystal and glass frames. Only pieces marked as engraveable can be personalized.  Simple lettering is done machine-assisted while longer text and logo work is created by hand. All engraving is done by artisans with great experience and a history of beautiful work.

The charge for the first 16 characters is $25.00; additional characters are 85¢ each. Each additional item of the same style and same etching will receive a 30% savings.

Our work-lead time is currently 5 business days for glass & crystal etched pieces to be shipped.

Engraved Metal Plates

SendAFrame now offers personalized metal plates. These plates are wonderful for frames and albums that otherwise could not be personalized.

2 types are available: either permanent stick-on or brass nail attaching.

All engraving is done by engravers artisans with a great deal of experience in producing beautiful work.

Place your selected piece(s) into an online shopping cart and click "Personalize this item" under the item description.

Our average expected engraving time is 2 business days for the plates to be engraved. We often do better, but please check the actual PERSONALIZING WORKSHEET and your cart for exact times - especially during holiday periods.

The cost of the engraving is included in the metal plate cost. We will engrave in your choice of 1 of 10 elegant text fonts. Only those that are in the drop-down selection list are available for your piece. Others that may be shown in web-store pictures are for other materials.

Sorry, due to the nature of personalized items, engraved pieces are not returnable for refund nor credit. Damages or errors will cheerfully be replaced with similar piece(s). Please contact us for directions on making a claim.

Personalized Orders: Change and Cancellation Policy

Due to the nature of personalized items, pieces customized to order are not returnable for refund, credit nor exchange under any circumstances.

Please check your order carefully before submitting, especially the way you want the piece held and the wording of your text.  Describe any special instructions in detail.

We will make every effort to accommodate you.  Where there is a chance of mis-interpretation of instructions passed to us outside those that are standard website questions, the decision of our Graphic Art Department will be final.

Work / scope changes upon response to proofs will not be charged any surcharges if minor in nature.

Major changes or revisions are subject to a minimum 15% change order fee, and may increase depending upon the work involved in making the changes.

Major changes include, but are not limited to:

  • Change of artwork and/or graphic files by more than 75%
  • Complete change of location ("zone") of the personalizing
  • Color changes that require matching of color

Cancellations of personalized orders not committed to final production are subject to a minimum of 30% of the personalizing cost for prep and handling if we are contacted after 3 hours from order confirmation. Please check your work and order carefully before submitting.

All orders assigned a shipping tracking # are considered completed. Any order assigned a tracking # within 24 "business" hours (M-F) of cancellation request will be considered complete as there is often a dry-time or cure-time to personalizing processes which means they may be done, but not packed for shipping.  Once completed, personalized items may not be changed or cancelled without exception ("final production" or "completed" means order shipped same day of cancellation request).

Errors in personalization will be cheerfully replaced with the same or similar piece(s) upon proof of error or authorized return.

Rush requests

We always work to exceed your expectations on custom work.  Yet time pressures certainly can necessitate extra attention to your order. Customers often ask if there is anything they can do expedite their orders.

On any metal, wood, or leather piece, we are able to provide a guaranteed "rush" expedited service that will decrease the delivery time by at least 40%. (example: 8 days normal time will become 4 days). The surcharge for this service is an additional, shown in the cart. This surcharge goes directly to our engravers who will stay after hours in order to get your job done in 1/2 the time.

Please plan your needs, especially at holiday time, as this extra cost doesn't make us happy to charge. We want you to always think of us as your lowest cost provider of beautiful gifts.

Still, contact us with your requests.  We may not be especially busy and would love to shower you with special attention at a reduced or special rate.

How to personalize an order

Many of SendAFrame's items have the option for personalization

If you see the "Personalize This Item" box to the right of the item, or in your CART, then that item can be personalized.


Click the PERSONIZE THIS ITEM box to open the order form pop-up.  There you will find personalizing options to read, enter, and save.

 


You will see 4 tabs at the top of the Pop-Up form

Go through each tab to make sure you have set-up each option as you want.  Don't worry - you can easily go back and review or change.  You will also get complete details in the email confirmation we send you when you submit an order.

The first tab "Info and Pricing" will give you any information about that specific item you are personalizing.

The "Orientation" tab will have you select which orientation you would like for your item to be personalized.

"Text & Graphics" is where you can set-up your personalization with the specific words or graphics you want added to your item. Please make sure you select the right location when setting up your order.

If your item allows, and you want to add a graphic, then you will upload it under this tab.

In the drop-down box by Mode, select "Graphic (Stock and custom graphics)".

You should then see "select a graphic" in the next drop-down box, and from there you can choose "Custom Graphic"

Click the " [+] add file" that will appear just to the right of the drop-down box, and you will then be allowed to upload your custom graphic.

 

"Colors, Fonts, & Options" is where you can select the foil color (if applicable) and see the list of available font for your item.

This is also where you can add any additional information or requests for our personalizing department.

We will try to honor any special requests. However, where we are unable to do so easily, we will proceed with your confirmed order with the text & locations indicated as placed.

After you have gone through each tab, you can add the item to your cart where it will be ready for checkout. This just sets it up in your cart. Until you complete your order and check out your item will be available for you to make any changes.
