Capturing the Picture Perfect Photo

Sharing family photographs is one of the great joys of the holidays. Here are five quick tips for taking that perfect shot to share with family and friends on a Crane’s 100% cotton holiday photomount card.

Outdoor photos are much easier and interesting than indoors. There are appealing elements to frame your photograph; attractive colors and textures. There are no windows, walls or mirrors to create reflections or shadows. Weather (like snow, or fall foliage) can be a fun part of your setting. Indoors or out, light is the essence of photography. Choose a shady area or a day without direct sunlight. The light at dusk can provide stunning opportunities. Choose a group close-up, or widen the view to include the view of the backdrop. Gather your family closely. If yours is a large group, gather them together in layers. If your photo is just of the kids, set them up, then move your feet; change positions side to side or up and down to get an interesting angle. If it’s a complete family photo, use a tripod and take some test shots with the timer. Take lots of photos. Take photos from different angles. Take photos with full flash, fill flash and no flash. Take at least one photo for every person in the group. Somebody is always blinking! When you see that perfect image on your computer screen, it’s time to select the card upon which it will be displayed. Choose a frame with complimentary colors, and a design that reflects your style. Most photo cards hold a standard 4 x 6 photo, so have your photos printed and trimmed to the size called for on the card, and add your personalized message inside.
